Commercial Vinyl Plank Flooring
Vinyl wood plank floors are commonly referred to as (LVT - Commercial grade vinyl flooring that looks like wood) which stands for Luxury Vinyl Tile a near lifeproof material that click (lock) together or interlocking. Although when most people think of vinyl wood looking planks they don't consider it to be tile but that is what the industry has labeled it. Therefore, when it comes to luxury vinyl tile Armstrong, we generally refer people to vinyl wood plank flooring.
Luxury vinyl planks almost always come in a wood look grain pattern but a few manufacturers have created other natural looking designs to emulate granite and stone. Armstrong manufacturers some of the most realistic high end commercial vinyl plank flooring with natural wood species that resemble real hardwood floors.
What to Know About Installation
No glue options are more commonly found in residential homes and this type of commercial vinyl wood flooring is called a floating installation or self-adhering planks. Glue down is recommended for commercial flooring applications so that floors do not shift or peel under high traffic conditions or hot and cold environments.
LVT Pricing & Installation Cost
The average cost of commercial vinyl flooring planks ranges from $2.50-$4.50 per square foot. This price depends a lot on the brand and the level of grade. Installing Armstrong vinyl plank flooring costs about $2-$4 per Sq. Ft. depending on the condition of the existing floor. Some premium vinyl plank flooring options do not require adhesive but most commercial grade vinyl plank floors will require a special glue or epoxy adhesive. Vinyl Wood Plank Sizes
Commercial grade vinyl wood plank strips come in narrow 3, 4 or 5" inch planks up to 6, 7 and 8" wide widths and 36-48 inches long. Some engineered vinyl flooring brands create varying lengths which creates a unique random look. That means that some pieces could be 36" inches long and another piece in the same carton could be 48" inches long. Commercial interlocking vinyl plank flooring is one the most durable and can withstand heavy loads and are also highly scratch resistance.
Knowing what wear layer is right for you
If your just coming from Home Depot or Lowe's you'll likely have seen a 6 mil or possibly a 12 mil wear layer. Although this is probably a product that will last for several years it doesn't mean it's right for every space. If you are buying vinyl plank floors because you are renting a home and want to ensure the floors don't get destroyed, then a six mil product won't probably do the trick.
Anything less than 12 mil would be for a low traffic residential home but once you've got to twelve mil your looking at light commercial product. We recommend at least a 20 mil for most commercial applications such as a grocery store that will have high foot traffic, shopping carts and even heavy carts or lifts driven across the floor. The next stop is 30 mil but that is usually only for the most extreme conditions with a lot of wear and tear; or you just really want something that lasts forever.
Advantages of Vinyl Wood vs Hardwood
One advantage to vinyl wood versus real hardwood is the ease of replacing a damaged or stained plank. Real hardwood is almost impossible to replace but commercial grade vinyl plank flooring is able to be fixed by just pulling up the damaged planks and replacing them with new realistic vinyl planks. Hardwood flooring is beautiful and the texture is 2nd to none; however the durability of luxury vinyl plank flooring and the cost comparison can't be matched. If you are trying to get the look of real hardwood floors and would like to not only save money but end up with product that will last decades, choose the best vinyl wood plank flooring aka LVT (luxury vinyl tile).
